It is never too early to make arrangements for your future. Many people go through life believing that they do not need to create an estate plan because we are too young or have no assets.  An estate plan is important to have because we never know what tomorrow will bring and the goal would be to make sure our family or loved ones do not have to worry about the future. Creating an estate plan is a practical way to ensure that your wishes are honored. Without an estate plan, your healthcare and financial decisions during life might not be followed and your assets post death will be distributed according to Florida’s intestacy laws. When planning your estate, there are some key documents that will ensure your wishes for your estate to be honored.

There are several important documents that can be prepared to help an individual prepare for different life scenarios.  One of those documents is the Durable power of attorney, this particular document allows someone to act on the principle’s behalf and is effective until the principle passes away or until they act to revoke the power they’ve granted to their agent.  This particular document allows a third party, an agent to make financial and legal decisions on the principle’s behalf.

The Designation of Health Care Surrogate is another important document that should be considered in preparing for different life scenarios.  This document gives an agent permission to make medical decisions for an individual when they are unable to make them for themselves.  There are several other documents that should be discussed with an attorney to determine what is best for your individual plan.
